Closed: Summer 2023: Local Seasonal Fresh Produce (CSA Shares)

Thank you to all those that signed up. Our Summer 2023 CSA is closed. Please check out The Blackwater Bundle for a weekly subscription!

Not many people are familiar with the term CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). A CSA is a very similar to a subscription service.

We are offering 100 Shares for Summer 2023. Sign up early!

How a CSA works: Essentially, you reap the benefits of having your own garden without the long hours.

By joining the Passel Hills Farm CSA:

  • You are making an investment in our local farm by purchasing shares in our coming year.
  • As a member of the CSA, you provide the “seed” money for the coming year.
  • We share the risks and rewards with you. We are not reliant upon the whims of banks and corporate contracts to fund our operation, but rather upon you, our neighbors.
  • By purchasing a Share of the harvest, you become a Member of the Passel Hills Farm CSA.
  • You are essentially subscribing to and underwriting the harvest.
  • Joining a CSA is not about cheap food, it is about knowing how your food is grown. We follow “organic practices”. Though not “certified”, we go above certification standards to provide you with quality food.
  • Invest in your community, buy local, and purchase a Share from Passel Hills Farm.

Passel Hills Farm is offering CSA Shares for Summer 2023: Local Seasonal Fresh Produce.

Why do a CSA? Buying CSA Shares with Passel Hills Farm, means you are partnering with a local farm. Your CSA membership provides “seed” money for the farm’s operational costs at the beginning of the season. This effectively severs ties with outside influences, and allows the community to be self sufficient.

What to expect? We offer a few different sized shares to cater to your family’s size and needs. A “Share” consists of 6 or 18 baskets. You will receive a basket once a week, over the course of 7 or 20 weeks, depending on your plan. We currently offer 3 different sized baskets, customizable to you and your family. Currently we offer a Squat, Peck, and 1/2 Bushel.

A Squat will feed 1 person a week. A PECK will feed 2-3 people. A 1/2 Bushel will feed 4-5 people. You will receive a weekly assortment of our best produce. The vegetables will differ seasonally. For example over the course of the season, veggies will include: spinach, radishes, kale, beets, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, basil, & more.

Squat= 1 dry gallon

Peck=2 dry gallons

Half Bushel= 4 dry gallons

What do you mean by seasonal produce? Seasonal means you will receive veggies depending on the current time of year. Below are some examples of what you will receive as the produce comes in through the season.

If a crop failure does happen, Passel Hills Farm will purchase crops from other local farms to replace up to 50% of the lost crops.

Crop Surplus

Passel Hills Farm LLC also sells produce to other local markets.  When Passel Hills Farm LLC has surplus crops, Members will receive at least a 10% surplus before Passel Hills Farm LLC sells to other markets. Passel Hills Farm LLC does not segregate CSA production, but CSA production does receive our priority.  Other markets will be satisfied after Passel Hills Farm LLC has satisfied Members’ shares.

Selling CSA memberships helps Passel Hills Farm LLC reduce the burden of up-front costs (such as seeds, tillage, and other inputs) before the season starts. We appreciate Member’s commitment to Passel Hills Farm LLC. By agreeing to the terms of service, you are agreeing to pay the membership fee for share. In the event that  Member desires to downsize his or her share after initial purchase, this request should be clearly communicated to Passel Hills Farm LLC and can be granted but a refund will not be granted unless Passel Hills Farm LLC, in its discretion, decides to grant a refund.
